The Carousel Quilt
We've had this design kicking around the computer for a couple years, but hadn't figured out how to finish it. Then Spencer got given a lovely globe carousel in pastels when he was born... and the inspiration was complete! The quilt features hand stitching embellishments on the carousel horses and semi-circle pieces- with buttons and beads to complete the look.
Size: 38 inches square- good for a wall hanging, or lap quilt for a young girl.

The latest designs for the oriental theme I've been developing over the past year feature Butterflies. These butterflies were inspired by ancient Chinese embroideries from the 16th to 18th centuries. A common design device on clothing, bags and homewares, the butterflies were embroidered in tiny silk stitching in brilliant colours, often outlined in white thread on dark backgrounds. The National Gallery in Sydney has some similar samples of Vietnamese clothing, which are worth a look for their exquisite stitching.
