Wonder Women
Did you ever wonder about the unsung heroes in our industry? You know- people who measure and cut fabric for us in shops all day long, those who package internet orders, create the fabrics, produce the products, editors of our craft magazines... Well, this month was a frantic 'organising' (or if you're from the USA- 'organizing') one for me, and I was blessed to be helped out by several 'Wonder Women'.
It all started with emails flying back and forth between Catherine Sanchez and myself regarding a new project for Homespun magazine. Catherine found a beautiful range of fabric that she thought would be just perfect for the design I had created. Only problem was the fabric, 'Fly a Kite' by Blake Riley Designs wasn't coming out until later in the year, pretty much exactly the same time the project deadline hit. Oops.
After some panicked 'Help Obi Wan' emails, Catherine swung into action, despite time zone troubles and all, and roped in Riley Blake to help us access this beautiful fabric. (I've given you a sneak peek- if you'd like to see the full range, it's at www.rileyblakedesigns.com.) Riley Blake very, very, very, kindly helped us out. Hooray for nice fabric people! (Leuteneggar distributes Riley Blake fabric in Australia, so you can send them emails for more info - just maybe not so dramatic and desperate as the ones I sent!!!)
But it doesn't end there! I needed a few extra colours from other Riley Blake ranges Mod Tod and Fox Trails, and Kimberly from the Fat Quarter Shop was extremely helpful in assisting me and answering all my nagging emails, and extra quick service and postage. (With two boys who are allergic to quilt shops, internet shopping is brilliant!)
So, this all sounds like one big plug- but it's worth it, to let you know that there's a lot of people putting in a LOT of extra effort, just to get a quilt in a magazine with lovely fabric, for you to enjoy! Doesn't that give you a warm gooey feeling inside? Well, just wait till you see the quilt!
A sincere thanks to all you Wonder Women!
Off I go to get it started! First day cutting is always so exciting. ('Go watch anything on TV boys- Mum's having fun!!!)
cheers,
Natashia and Duncan
p.s. On a sadder note, one of my fave shops Primitive Patches has closed it's doors after 16 years. Ann-Maree, you will be missed. Have a wonderful retirement.
